Masterminds
Serenity is the ideal town. It has no crime, no unemployment, no poverty, and the highest contentment rate in the nation. Although that isn’t hard in a town of less than two hundred people, it is still quite an accomplishment, and the children in the town recognize how lucky they are to live there. One day, Eli and his friend Randy go for a bike ride, but as soon as they leave the town limits, Eli gets violently sick and faints. When he wakes up, he’s told that Randy is moving away. He finds a letter from Randy telling him that nothing is as it seems in his town and he needs to figure out what’s going on. Together with some other children, Eli discovers the dangerous secret.
Masterminds was a fun romp that engages and entertains. It has a unique premise and fast pacing, and readers will find themselves immersed in the mysterious circumstances of Eli’s town. However, it is not intense; it is a lighthearted story of children discovering there is more to the world than what they’ve been told.
