Mango & Bambang: The Not-a-Pig
One day Mango discovered a tapir curled up in the middle of the street. She knew he needed help so she invited him home and named him Bambang. Bambang liked living with Mango in her apartment and he was happy to have a friend. One day Mango took him to the pool. Another time they went to the park and met a friend who liked living in a tree. In one adventure, Mango was gone and Bambang got trapped by a collector, so Mango had to come rescue him. Later, Mango was scared about a playing in a concert, so Bambang taught her the Song of the Tapir.
I like this book because Mango and Bambang can help each other through all the problems they have. Bambang can talk, but only to Mango, and they have a sweet friendship. I like the pictures, which really help you with the story; some are really funny, like the one where Mango first discovers Bambang. In that one, the stripe on the tapir’s back blends in with the stripe on the road so people just think he is a big bump! This is a good book for children who enjoy friendships and small adventures.
