Elephant Secret
Elephant Secret by Eric Walters is about a girl, Samantha, who lives with her father on their elephant reserve. One of the elephants is pregnant, but Samantha and her father never guess how much this baby will change their lives.
There were a few things I disliked about this story. First of all, Samantha was disrespectful to adults. She deliberately disobeyed her father on numerous occasions, and she talked back. Also, there were several parts when the author wanted to relay some complicated information on elephants, but he presented it in the form of a very awkward dialogue between Samantha and her father. Finally, I felt that the book could have been condensed significantly by eliminating lengthy parts that I have deemed unnecessary.
On the other hand, the plot was interesting and unpredictable. I never knew what would happen next, so I found myself wanting to keep reading. Walters closes with an abrupt ending; I think a sequel would be fantastic!
