Beastly Bones: A Jackaby Novel
Beastly Bones is the first book in the Jackaby novel series. It’s about a woman named Abigail Rook. She’s not like other girls. It’s 1892 and most girls work in shops or get married. Abigail assists a man named Jackaby.
Mr. Jackaby is a detective for unusual mysteries. In this book, they’re figuring out a mystery of shape-shifting kittens. Their owner, Mrs. Beaumont, noticed that her kittens were growing fins, scales, etc. The next day, their owner was found murdered.
Jenny Canavaugh is one of Abigail’s best friends. She was murdered in her house. Jackaby bought the house to use it as a home and office even though Jenny was still living in it (as a ghost of course).
One exciting thing that happens is at the end of the book. A reporter stopped by the house to get pictures for the newspaper. A dragon ate her.
Beastly Bones is memorable because it involves ghosts, dragons, and shape-shifting kittens. This is a book you can get lost in in a good way. I recommend this book to people who like to read books about mysteries and paranormal things without all the teenage romance. Overall, I rate this book five stars.
