The story Zola’s Elephant is about a local girl and a newcomer in the area and how the girl wants to make friends with the newcomer; however, she thinks she can’t because the new girl has an elephant friend already. The local girl keeps on wondering what the new girl is doing until she visits the new girl at her house and realizes that she has no friends. The elephant is in her imagination! The two girls end up becoming friends.

This book was hard for me to understand at certain points. I don’t think that this book is appropriate for small children. The story is about friendship and how friendships can be formed. Zola’s Elephant has a good lesson, but may be a difficult story for younger children to understand.
