Your Vote Matters: How We Elect the US President
In Your Vote Matters, an informational text by Rebecca Katzman, the reader learns about voting, the three branches of government, and other government functions, as well as how the government works.
Each page contains informational bubbles with specific facts relating to the topic and/or a side topic relating to the information on the page. The text is clear but not very interesting. The illustrator, Ellen Duda, has drawn beautiful pictures and chosen fitting colors for every page, which is beautiful in and of itself. But, as an older child, I found Your Vote Matters not particularly intriguing to read; most of the information was already covered multiple times in school.
This book may be valuable reading material for younger children. I recommend Your Vote Matters to elementary schools to buy for the social studies/history classes in the younger grades. I do not suggest that families buy it for their kids to read at home idly. For those wishing to teach their children social studies, this is not the right book. I recommend Your Vote Matters for children seven or younger in age.
