World After (Penryn & the End of Days, Book 2)

The way you have always imagined angels has now been turned upside down and given a darkness of their own. Scorpion angels, angels coming back to life, and an angel torn between the two worlds are just a touch of what this book is about. It is like I Am Legend but angel style. This is a very high action and fast moving story. The author does an excellent job describing the world without overdoing it and adds a lot of underlying emotion. To break up the seriousness, she includes a bit of humor, like naming Raffe’s sword Pooky Bear. There are some inclusions that I think many young adult authors might stay away from, like experimenting on children and politics. However, Susan Ee is capable of taking serious topics and working the story around them and keeping the reader wanting more.

Having not read the prior book, I can attest that this book is a perfect standalone novel, but as always, I recommend when starting a new series to always start at book one. Definitely add this one to your book wish list!
