Wolves at the Door by Steve Watson is a really good story. It is set in Europe during the last months of World War II. Germans fight with Russians, setting the city ablaze. In the middle of the chaos are orphan sisters Asta and Pieta. They lost everything in the war and had one chance to escape. They will have to travel through a war-torn countryside to escape to the coast in the dead of winter.

This book is told not by one but by two narrators, Asta and Pieta. While they are fictional characters, they face the harsh realities of World War II, and they never give up. From bombings to freezing winters, this book is packed with action. I appreciated its accuracy and realism, too. With its real-life accuracy, this is a good book for readers who like historical fiction or World War II fiction. It helped me understand what it would be like to go through a war and the terror of fleeing from a war. (Mainly, I don’t ever want to do that!)
