Within These Lines
Within These Lines immediately hooked me from the very first page. For the entire time while reading, I was hit with a sense of sadness and devastation. The story between Evalina and Taichi is one that won’t leave me anytime soon. Taichi is a Japanese-American-living in America after Pearl Harbor was hit. His family is under watch and is sent to an internment camp here in the US. He’s in love and in a secret relationship with an Italian-American girl, Evalina. A relationship between the two is completely forbidden, but their feelings are true and very deep. My heart hurt while reading about the conditions that the Japanese had to endure. It was vile, brutal, and beyond comprehension. The romance was minimal, but it was sweet and genuine. I loved reading from the POV of Eva and Taichi. It was interesting to see how both did whatever they could to survive. I recommend this story for those who like books that are set in the World War ll era, characters who overcome adversity, and a love that proves it can survive through almost anything.
