Winging It: A Graphic Novel

$14.99

Description

The graphic novel Wining It is about a girl named Luna who moves from California to Washington, DC. She lives with her dad because her mom passed away when she was a baby. One day, her dad tells her they are moving to DC to stay with her grandmother, whom Luna doesn’t even know.

At first, Luna doesn’t like her grandmother because she is very strict. Luna’s mom loved nature and even named her after the Luna moth, but Luna herself never really cared about nature. That starts to change after the move. While in DC, she begins to enjoy being outdoors and even goes looking for a Luna moth.

One of my favorite parts of the story is how Luna and her grandmother’s relationship changes. At the beginning, they feel distant, and Luna thinks her grandmother doesn’t care about her. But later, she realizes her grandmother really does care, and they become much closer.

I also liked how each chapter was set in a different month, with graphics that matched the seasons, and I enjoyed that Luna was multi-racial and had a diverse friend group.

I would recommend this book to other kids around 11 or 12 who enjoy graphic novels. I would give this book 4 stars.
