Who Will Bell the Cat?
In this story, some mice help a cat who turns out to be mean. So the mice want to put a bell on the cat so they’ll know when she’s coming, but it’s really dangerous to get the bell around the cat’s neck.
I like this story better than the original one. The original story ends with the wise old mouse just asking who will bell the cat; when no one answers, he says the best ideas don’t do any good unless you have a way to make them happen. But this story has the mice trying lots of different things until finally they get someone much bigger to help them. So I like that the mice are able to do what they were trying to do.
The pictures in this book are really good. The cat looks really mean because the mice helped her but then she betrayed them. It is interesting how all the pictures are colored in dark colors and tones, making you feel like you are scared in the barn like the mice. This is a good retelling of a very old story, and it has a little twist at the end that will make you think!
