When the Cousins Came by Katie Yamasaki is about bikes, cousins, friendship, and how the cousins all became good cousins. Rosie and Takeo sat together, and Lila sat by herself. Lila was probably sad, lonely, and left out at first. Lila can’t play with her little brother because he’s just a little baby. Rosie made a tunnel and then Lila followed, and they became friends. It’s cool that Lila tried using chopsticks and finally got the hang of it. I was amazed she used chopsticks the right way. I also like their tent and how the cousins became friends together. The book made me think of my cousins, but they are babies. I liked the illustrations because they look very real.
