When Stars Come Out
Anora Silby has strange gifts – she can see the dead and turn spirits into gold coins. Her abilities have made life miserable, but she must ignore her calling if she wants to succeed at her new school. But on her first day, she attracts the attention of star quarterback Shy, collects the spirit of a ghost, and loses the coin.
When a student is murdered, Anora knows her coin was the weapon. Now, she must stop the killer, recover her coin, and stay away from the Order, an organization that controls death. With Shy at her side, can Anora set things right and discover who she was meant to be?
This book was very entertaining! Unique worldbuilding, powers, and lore all added up to create something that I found to be quite readable. However, I felt that the romance really derailed most of the more interesting plot aspects for me. I found myself wanting to skip over all romantic scenes. I believe that the story would have been better without the romance, but besides that, I found the book to be interesting. I would recommend this to fans of fantasy and urban YA.
