What’s the Catch?: How to Avoid Getting Hooked and Manipulated (Second Edition) (All about Me)

What’s the Catch? is a book about how people follow other people’s decisions in both good and bad ways. This book is written for people who do not know anything about psychology, so the reader can just start reading, needing no background. It includes information about digital, group, school, and economic interactions and how to see the hook and judge whether you want to go along with the group anyway. What’s the Catch? is an essential book for teens and tweens that do not want to be manipulated by advertising and authority. Chock full of useful and interactive activities, What’s the Catch? has only one problem. Some psychology studies can be disturbing, and the author is a bit blunt in mentioning these. However, aside from this, What’s the Catch? is a great book. It has activities included for teachers, enough that a teacher who does not specialize in psychology could teach a brief course on avoiding getting hooked. I highly recommend this book to middle school and high school-aged teens and tweens, and it is well worth purchasing. All middle school, high school, and public libraries should own a copy.
