Welcoming Babies: Second Edition
Welcoming Babies is an adorable book that explains how babies are welcomed into families across the world. The book shares examples from different countries of how people celebrate the birth or arrival of new babies. It mentions traditions from African countries like Nigeria and Ghana but also some religious traditions like baptisms in the Philippines, or even how we celebrate first birthdays. It also mentions babies in the NICU and even adoption, which I thought was really special and important. In the back, it shares some more facts and details about even more countries.
The passages overall in the book are short and perfect for a bedtime story. The illustrations are big and vivid, usually spread over two pages. I really think it is amazing to read about all these different traditions of how families celebrate new babies. Maybe we all share different traditions, but we all share excitement and joy over a new baby, no matter where we are from. I think this would make a sweet story for a younger kid who is about to have a new sibling. I would recommend this book for any age.
