Warded
The tribes live in constant fear of the demons that lurk in the shadows. Anaye has grown up blissfully separated from the monsters, protected by her village’s warder Dalak for generations. But when wounded survivors from a nearby village arrive at her home speaking of a huge demon of writhing darkness, Dalak sets off after the demon; and Anaye, as her custodian, follows. With the help of one of the inhabitants of the decimated village, Jahal, the trio sets off into the treacherous jungle to seek out survivors that the demon might have spared. Can they reach the villagers in time to save them? Or is it already too late?
This was an extremely unique story, with engaging characters and an enchanting world. Anaye was a strong female lead, and I enjoyed reading about her as well as Dalak, who was a very interesting character though I wish she had gotten a pov in the story. The book was shorter than I thought it would be, which didn’t really give me time to connect with the characters, but I liked the concept and thought it was a great adventure!
