This book has a collection of children’s fairy tales, and they are from Vietnam. There are lots of fun stories in this book, some of them are new and some are versions of stories you already know. One of the stories is a version of Cinderella, and but there are some differences, like there’s only one stepsister. One story is called “The Legend of Banh Chung and Banh Day.” In this story the king decides that whichever prince brings him the best meal will be the rightful heir to the throne. The youngest prince has already married a young woman in the village and doesn’t really want to be heir, but decides he will try, so he just makes regular rice cakes called Banh Chung and Banh Day. That is the meal that wins, because even though the other foods were very expensive, that was the food that was the yummiest. The stories are easy and fun to read. The illustrations help you feel like you are in Vietnam and help you know what is going on. If you like fairy tales you will like this book too!
