Tyler Makes a Birthday Cake! (Tyler and Tofu)
In this book, a boy named Tyler wants to make a cake for his dog, Tofu. They go to the bakery to find out how to make a cake. When they get there, the baker shows them the ingredients they have to use, and Tyler wants to know how the baker got all the ingredients. The baker encourages Tyler to imagine they are in all the places where the ingredients came from. For example, they imagine they are on a farm to get all the carrots, which grow underground. Then they travel to Hawaii to find pineapples, which grow on spiky bushes. They keep imagining they travel to different places where the ingredients grow, finding out more about each ingredient at the same time. When they finally make the cake, the baker tells Tyler that this cake isn’t good for dogs, so the baker invents a new cake just for dogs so Tyler can give Tofu a fun birthday party.
I thought this was a fun picture book and would be good for children aged four to seven. It includes recipes for both the human carrot cake and the dog carrot cake, so you can have a party with your pet, too!
