Tummy Rumble Quake
Tummy Rumble Quake is a book about what to do if an earthquake happens. It is not a story book, but advice to children and parents for staying safe. If you live somewhere earthquakes happen, it is a good idea to read this book. It explains that an earthquake is plates moving on the surface of the earth and what to do if you are outside or in a car when an earthquake happens. This book teaches three safety steps: drop, cover, and hold on. Put you hands on your head, get on the ground, and hold onto furniture like a table or desk.
The characters are drawn as animals; the teacher is an owl who has three fingers and a thumb and looks weird. At the end of the book is a page of questions and activities to help kids remember how to stay safe during an earthquake. The publisher’s Train 4 Safety Press website has a printable poster with words to a song to help remember the safety steps. There is even a link to print a certificate of earthquake readiness. Any kid or parent who worries about earthquakes can learn these three simple steps, so this is a good book to have in a classroom or school library.
