Tucker Grizzwell’s Worst Week Ever

This graphic novel reads like a comic strip because there are at least two jokes on every page. Some of them are funny, like when Tucker Grizzwald’s sister describes an embarrassing dream where she is in geography class and not wearing any clothes and Tucker answers, “That is embarrassing,” and his sister replies, “I know, I was supposed to be in Chemistry class.” But other jokes I either didn’t understand or didn’t think were very funny.

The characters are pretty one-dimensional, and the pictures aren’t very expressive. I did enjoy the colors, and the family reminded me of the Bernstein Bears, since they are bears living in a tree house with a brother, sister, mom, and dad. I felt like the roles were pretty stereotyped since the girl hates school and is always talking about make-up and boys and Tucker is really smart and enjoys school.

If you like silly comic strips and the Bernstein Bears, then you will probably like this book. I think kids who are a little younger than I am (almost nine!) would like it more, but they might need their parents to explain some of the jokes.
