First it was Maren Hamilton’s father and now her mother. Her father died seventeen years ago in a car crash the day she was born, and her mother was all she had left. Now her mother is gone because of a freak accident. Maren is sent to Scotland to live with her grandparents in an old stone house. She may have been able to enjoy being in Scotland, but grief clouds her mind–that was, until she meets Gavin. She instantly falls in love with Gavin. But there are rules that creatures like Gavin can’t be with a human girl like Maren. Then things start getting weird, and she finds and sees things she’s never seen before.

Toward a Secret Sky is a story about angels, demons, and a seventeen-year-old girl. It’s intense and sad. It has lots of details, so you can imagine the characters and places more easily. It’s a little slow at first, but then it starts to get more action throughout the book. Since there is violence and some romance, I’d recommend it for high-school age and above.
