Tide Pool Secrets
This non-fiction, lift-the-flap book is exactly what your grandparents might give you before a beach vacation, but that doesn’t mean you won’t like it! My favorite part is lifting the flaps to find the animals hiding under the rocks and seaweed. It’s not quite like searching in a tidepool, but it’s still fun, and I bet kids even younger than me would like it even more.
My favorite part is that it identifies all the creatures at the back of the book and shows where you can find them in the ocean, giving older kids more information. Kids will learn a lot about how the different animals camouflage themselves and hide. Much of the information is stuff older kids or those who live near the beach might already know, like that hermit crabs grow out of other animal’s shells, but it would be a good introduction for those less familiar with tidepools.
Some pictures are more detailed than others, but it’s pretty easy to find the animal described. I liked the use of colors and different shaped flaps. I think I would go back to this book because of the pretty illustrations. So tell your parents and grandparents to take you to the beach and to get you Tide Pool Secrets!
