Description

Tic-errific Me: A Book about Tourette syndrome is one of six books in the Disability Books for Kids series by various authors, but this one is by Alicia Meyers. The story is about a young girl who tells the reader she has Tourette’s, then goes on to explain the accompanying symptoms, what others may notice, and how it makes her feel as the one with Tourette’s. From what I already knew about Tourette syndrome, the author does a good job of explaining the syndrome and symptoms, along with plenty I still learned from the book. I am around someone pretty regularly who I think might have undiagnosed Tourette syndrome, so this taught me more about what they might be experiencing. At the end of the book, the author says that she has Tourette’s, which made me have more faith in the information shared in the story, because it is likely from first-hand experience or research. The story is short enough that there isn’t a dump of information for younger readers, and whether you’re younger or older, you can learn something from this book and understand the character’s feelings.
