Do you like the unicorns of the sea? A mermaid named Cora and her friends – a jellyfish named Jimmy, a sea cucumber named Larry, and a mermaid named Sandy, and her pet giant shrimp named Salty – go on a trip to prove narwhals are real. One night Cora wakes up with an idea for a story. So she writes it down. The next day at school during free time she finishes writing, so she shows it to her friend Sandy. Because a mermaid named Vivian tells their teacher that Cora is passing notes, she has to read it to the whole class. But everyone loves it so much that they clap at the end! Later her teacher invites her to the Ocean Writes contest, a writing contest. The topic is the best thing you have ever done. Cora feels like she has never done anything that great, so she goes on a trip to prove narwhals are real.

I like this book because it has real narwhal facts. The words on the book cover are shiny and there are lots of drawings of narwhals. Cora is like a school friend, but the mean-girl mermaid, Vivian, isn’t like anybody I know. It’s fun to read and enjoy the cartoon-type drawings.
