The Year of the Three Sisters (An Anna Wang novel)
This book is the continuing story of Anna Wang, a 12-year-old girl who lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her family. She went to China in the previous book for a family vacation, and she met a school-aged waitress named Fan with whom she became friends. When Anna returns to America, she tells her friends about China and Fan. One of her friends, Andee, suggests that they can invite Fan over as an exchange student for a year. They are able to bring Fan over. At first, Fan finds it hard to adjust to living in America due to jet lag, the English language, and cultural customs. However, with time, the girls all learn about friendship and understanding.
The book is good because I like what the story is about. It teaches a lesson about friendship and about Chinese culture. I could sometimes relate to how the girls are talking and feeling. Even though it is hard for them, the girls are able to work through their problems, and I might be able to use some of these examples when I have problems in my life. Boys might like it a little bit, but young girls should like this book better.
