The Year of the Garden (An Anna Wang novel)
The Year of the Garden is one book out of a series. It is about two girls, Anna and Laura, who plan to make a garden that looks exactly like the garden in the The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Secret Garden is a real book about an orphan girl who discovers a garden. In this book, Anna receives plant seeds from a friend and begins to work. Her friend, Laura, decides she would like to help. However, the two girls’ friendship weakens when Laura joins a soccer team and makes many new friends. Anna does not think that you can have more than one friend, so she gets upset with Laura. Will they ever make it up to each other?
My favorite part is when the two best friends rescue a freezing baby rabbit from under a tree on a snowy day. The plot was always going somewhere, so I was never bored. The language was pretty simple, so even younger kids could understand it. One character speaks Chinese, but there is even a guide in the front that explains the pronunciation and meaning. Overall, I thought this was an entertaining book, and I would like to read more in the series.
