The Year of the Fortune Cookie (An Anna Wang novel)
This is the third book in a series about Anna Wang, an 11-year old girl who lives in Ohio with her family. Anna is able to go to China to help her former teacher and her husband adopt a baby girl. Before she goes, she helps raise money for an orphanage by selling fortune cookies she bakes, getting a lot of people to knit hats for the babies in the orphanage, and worrying about being homesick for her family and friends in the U.S. When she goes to China she makes a friend in Fan, a waitress in the hotel that they’re staying in. Anna eventually gets to visit the Lucky Family Orphanage where her baby sister was adopted from and where her teacher’s baby is from. While in China she also gets to visit a lot of special places in Beijing.
Even though I haven’t read the first two books I enjoyed this book because I liked what the story was about. This story would be good for kids who are adopted from China or who want to learn a little about China.
