The Witch’s Guide to Magical Combat
First, this book is confusing because it continues the first two books in the Spellchasers trilogy. I started reading and didn’t know what was happening. At the beginning, the heroine doesn’t even know what animal she shape-shifted into! Second, it’s confusing because there are lots of fairy tale and mythological creatures: kelpies, griffins, a roc, sphinxes, dryads, plus magical creatures the author made up herself, like curse-hatched crows. Third, it’s confusing because the plot is so action-packed, you have to pay attention every minute or you won’t know what’s happening. But the story is so interesting, it pulls you along even when you don’t really understand. It is super exciting!
The heroine, Molly, is brave, smart, and honest. She tries to do the right thing – not just what her friends want but what is best. Molly finds out she has her own magic. Like most things, magic can be good or bad depending how it’s used. Molly and her friends go on a quest to save the world and find out a lot about themselves, too. The friends have to be true to what’s best in them, and they make a new friend. If you love magic and myth, read this!
