The Water Dragon’s Bride follows Asahi, a modern girl who finds herself transported through a pool in her family’s backyard to another world, where she meets a kind boy named Subaru and his sister, Shiina. They bring her to their parents, who promise to treat her like their own daughter. But in order to continue their family’s good fortune, a girl must be sacrificed to the water dragon. In this world, Asahi meets the water dragon, who knows nothing about what she needs, and the gods mock her refusal of his hand in marriage. Meanwhile, above the water, Subaru searches for a way to save his friend. The Water Dragon’s Bride is a story of two kids and a strong friendship in a mythical Japanese world written and illustrated by Rei Toma. Asahi and Subaru struggle to return Asahi to her world and her family and face the common problems of children disguised by magic. The pictures are artfully filled with emotion and paint wondrous scenes and characters. You will fall in love with Asahi and Subaru as they show readers what a true friendship is and what true friends will do for one another, even in a fantasy world full of gods and dragons.
