There is a boy who got on a ship as a stowaway because he really likes listening to sailor’s stories. He had to get off because he was found and then the ship exploded. He broke his arm in the explosion. He gets in trouble for going on the ship, so he has to get a punishment of a job taking care of sick explorers. His name is Bren Owen.

This book was impossible for me to finish. Bren was interesting because he got into a lot of trouble but he was really funny and he was really skinny. The story takes place in the time of pirates and sailing ships, which should be really fun. But it seems like nothing ever happens – by halfway through the book he hasn’t even gone anywhere! Bren doesn’t even really have any friends, except for a waitress who serves at a restaurant he likes. Maybe this book would be better for children who are older than me. I just can’t get into it. It doesn’t have any pictures and it is really long.
