The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street
The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street is a sweet, loving story about kids saving their house around Christmastime.
Right before Christmas, the mean landlord, Mr. Biederman, threatens to kick a family, the Vanderbeekers, out of their house. Without a job and a house, the family is hopeless. The kids come up with an amazing plan to rescue the house and initiate Operation Acts of Kindness. Through many twists and turns, the kids later find out about a tragic story that changed Mr. Biederman’s life forever, and they realize why he has become the way he is. Together through love and friendship, they eventually win back his heart!
I thought the book was very beautifully written with a very heartfelt message. I really enjoyed it, and it made me laugh and think all at the same time. The story even reminded me a little bit of “A Christmas Carol,” and I am sure many kids, boys and girls, about nine years and up would really enjoy this book as well!
