The Unexpected Life of Oliver Cromwell Pitts: Being an Absolutely Accurate Autobiographical Account of My Follies, Fortune, and Fate
The Unexpected Life of Oliver Cromwell Pitts by Avi is about a young boy who suddenly finds himself alone in a flooded house one morning. His mother died, his sister is in New York, and his father has abandoned him, leaving only a smudged letter. Since he has no money, he robs a shipwreck and gets in huge trouble with the government. Will he ever be reunited with his family? I thought this book was so captivating, I read it all in one sitting!!! I liked it because it was exciting and dramatic. However, the ending was so abrupt, I almost felt like I had missed reading something! There were no pictures, but I didn’t think they were necessary because the words were so descriptive I actually felt like I was there. This book reminded me of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Both authors’ books were about children who have lots of bad things happen to them. If you like Lemony Snicket’s series, this is probably a good book for you. I would recommend this book for children ages nine and up. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
