The Taming (The Refuge Chronicles) (Volume 1)

Thutter McClutter, a young shrew, ventures out from his safe burrow with his friends on a quest to bring magic back to their home. They have various encounters with predators, but worst of all is the horrible Beastmonger who is trying to overthrow the Protectors of the glade. Thutter has never met the Protectors, and isn’t even sure they exist, but as his loyalties and those of his friends are called into question, he must decide what he really believes.

This book was so boring. There were so many little pointless skirmishes or encounters or happenings that didn’t really add at all to the book, or the atmosphere, or anything. It was very episodic, like a pointless soap opera. Every time you think you will find out some backstory or what is going on, nope! Another pointless episode. Thutter gets interrupted from his quest, like, seven times. The writing style was very clunky, and it was hard to keep track of who was who. It is trying to be a type of Christian conversion story, but it is forced and so dull, and the characters were stereotypical and not even true to themselves. I greatly disliked this book.
