Everyone knew the tale of Tam Linn, a boy who went into the woods and never returned. Ever since, there has been a fierce fairy knight guarding the woods. But Janet did not like being told what to do. She went into the woods and discovered it was beautiful there. When she picked a flower, the fairy knight appeared! Janet knew it was Tam Linn, and she convinced him to try to come back. He told her how to break the spell. Janet had to hold onto Tam Linn no matter what the fairy queen transformed him into, like a snake or a wolf or burning branch. Janet had to summon all her courage to overcome the fairy queen’s spell.

This book is good because it is about friendship and courage and holding on no matter what. The pictures are very pretty; they look very realistic. The story is set in Scotland, and is a traditional Scottish fairy tale. My favorite picture and part of the story was where Tam Linn was sitting in a tree, and where he meets Janet. This is a story you will want to read over and over as you look at the beautiful illustrations.
