The Shadow Cabinet (The Shades of London)
Do you guys remember that tortuous ending in The Madness Underneath? Well, The Shadow Cabinet starts with Rory and friends facing the reality that one of their own has faced a terrible tragedy: death. I was not disappointed, and the wait since the second installment was well worth it. Anyway, now Rory and Boo are on a quest to find him in ghost form. Meanwhile, Charlotte has been kidnapped by the evil Jane. Fighting against evil and time, Rory struggles with grief and trying to stop Jane from whatever it is that she’s got planned. The beginning was a little slow to start with, and the more I read, the more interested I was. Johnson has a knack for weaving mystery and twists you won’t see coming from a mile away. There are gasp-like moments that kept me on my toes. Although this isn’t my favorite book, I still think it is well written and so fun to read. I always know I’ll be taken into a new world when reading a Maureen Johnson book. I wish I could have had just a teeny, tiny bit more romance. Just a little! In the end, I thought this was a great book. I look forward to reading the fourth book so I can know what happens! Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long.
