The Seren Stone

The Seren Stone is a story set in a future where there has been a technological apocalypse. In the aftermath, magic and a connection to the earth emerged, along with dragons and a magical object called the Seren Stone. When Loren puts on the stone, she takes her siblings Cat and Will into this alternate future to encounter a greedy queen who wants to claim the stone for her own. The Seren Stone has a good plot and nice fantasy setting, but the characters are very weak. I didn’t feel close to the main characters and the only thing that kept me reading is the plot. This book does not have much substance. I do think libraries should have a copy of this book. It would be a good story to show what NOT to do in a writing class, but I don’t recommend schools having a copy. I recommend this book to upper elementary and lower middle-school children. I think that it is not worth purchasing The Seren Stone for a household. If you like quest stories in odd and interesting worlds and don’t care about the quality of characters, this book is for you.
