The Secrets We Bury
The Secrets We Bury by Stacie Ramey is a thought-provoking book that touches on mental disorders and depression. It is a very unique book about a teen named Dylan Taggert who is running from his parents and his past. As he decides to hike the Appalachian Mountains, he slowly realizes that he may not be emotionally prepared. During the hike, he meets a girl who, much like him, is also running from something in her past. Dylan realizes that he might not be as socially different as he thought he was and follows her. After learning her name and her story, he and “Ghost” become fast friends. Ghost tells Dylan about the past of another one of their trail friends, “Rain Man.” Realizing what might happen, Dylan navigates his way through the mountains, but, realizing that he can’t leave Ghost behind, especially since she now has a broken ankle, how can Dylan reach Rain Man before it’s too late? This is definitely one of the best survival novels I’ve ever read. Dylan Taggert’s story is emotionally raw and realistic. I really enjoyed the book.
