The Secrets of Solace
This book is about a girl whose name is Lina. She discovers a crashed ship, the Merlin, which is mysteriously underground and restores it. She learns that the Merlin is a magical ship and she learns secrets about it. It holds the key to the dark past and the future of the world. She also befriends a boy named Ozben and they enter into various adventures together.
The Secrets of Solace by Jaleigh Johnson takes place in a different dimension and is a fantasy novel. The book is very descriptive and told from the point of view of a narrator. Sometimes the characters are quirky but are usually kind to the people around them. They are memorable and you anticipate what is going to happen next. It is set in the same world as the author’s earlier novel, The Mark of the Dragonfly. You don’t have to read the earlier novel to understand this one. This book can be slow at times, but it quickly picks up the pace.
This book would be good for fantasy lovers who can make it through the slow sections of a book and persevere to find the gem contained in it. Ages 10 to 16.
