The Secret of Purple Lake is a collection of stories about families and the responsibilities of the children to their parents. Each story is different but each had its own lesson to tell. Some of the stories are about princes and princesses while the others are about common families. Whether they are royal or not, they still have jobs to do as a part of their family. Ajuba is asked to find out what happens after her father has gone missing. Princess Jael and Prince Leo (from different stories) are both getting ready to be married and move on from their families. Romilly is a mother who is turned into an eagle and has to help her children find love. Musa is sent on a journey through Africa to find his destiny.

Even though each of these stories is separate, they are connected in some ways, and some characters come back in the other stories, linking them all together. The different ocean adventures were exciting and interesting. It was fun to see how the characters were connected. The book will grab the reader and take them for a ride.
