Bella had been wanting a dog for years. She spent her free time learning all she could about dogs and how to care for them. Finally, her family got a dog from the animal shelter whose name was Jack. Jack was an older puppy who was terrier mix. Jack looked scruffy because his fur was frizzy and his ears were pointy and extra furry. Bella still thought he was adorable and beautiful. When Bella’s best friend, Megan, got a dog the same day, trouble started. Bella got upset because getting her a dog was her thing, since Megan didn’t ever say she wanted a dog, too. Also, Megan’s dog was a pedigree, which is a fancier purebred, expensive dog. Megan started bragging about her dog, and other girls at school started teasing Bella about how Jack looked. Bella was very mad and upset. The new girl at school named Sarah thought Jack was cute. She and Bella become friends. Sarah really wanted a dog of her own, but she couldn’t have one since she lived in an apartment. A dog show and training classes were coming up soon. Both Bella and Megan were entering their dogs. Bella and Sarah worked very hard to train Jack to do his best for the dog show. Will the dog show make things even worse for Bella and Megan’s friendship, or can a lost dog bring them back together? I think this book had a sweet beginning and ending. In the middle of the story, I thought that it was different from the other Holly Webb books I have read. Usually, everyone is so friendly. In this book, Bella’s friends were really mean, and Bella had to learn how to handle that. So this book taught me about friendship, too.
