The Scratch Daughters
Sideways Pike has an adventure ahead of her. After her traitorous crush, Madeline, stole her specter – the force that lets a witch use their powers – Sideways has been left unable to do magic. Even though she knows Madeline’s only borrowing the specter so that she can retrieve her own stolen one, being unable to exercise your natural witchiness can make a girl cranky. So Sideways goes on a hunt for her specter with only the aid of her life-support demon. Without her trusty Scapegracers by her side, Sideways is facing perilous odds. Can she retrieve her specter and stop her foes?
This was such a fun take on witches and queer magic!
I enjoyed every chaotic second of this book; I loved the characters, the dialogue, the plot, and the story. Reading this book was never dull, and I adored its originality, its queer rep, and the fact that it manages to stand out amongst the onslaught that is most YA literature. This book transports you to its own kind of dark and fabulous world. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something that breaks away from the average YA novel!
