The Rose Master
If there was anything Anne didn’t expect, it had to be this. Things like this just didn’t happen to parlor maids. It all started on her seventeenth birthday while she was busy clearing the courtyard of snow. Out of nowhere, dozens and dozens of birds just dropped to the ground. When she returned inside afterwards, she was told to go to Mistress Caldwell’s room. There she was informed she would be transferred to a place called Rosewood Manor. She had only two days to work, pack, and say goodbye to the only place and people she had ever known. Instead she would be going to a place that was the center of many terrible rumors, a place where there remained only three other workers and a mysterious new master.
The freezing manor house surrounded by an expanse of beautiful, but thorny, roses makes the perfect setting for this gothic story. Like Anne, I was drawn into the mystery of Rosewood Manor, wanting to know what was causing the strange happenings and how to help. Although I usually prefer more romance in my stories, it was still an interesting read, and fans of gothic or light horror stories will enjoy.
