The Road to Oregon City
The Oregon Trail….Will you be able to survive? The Oregon Trail: The Road to Oregon City, by Jesse Wiley, is the last of four books in the Oregon Trail series. It takes place in the 1850s. You are traveling in a covered wagon headed west to Oregon City. There are over twenty possible ways that you could end your journey, and with one wrong choice, you could be tumbling off a cliff, going into anaphylactic shock from a bee sting, or starving. There were several reasons that I liked this book. One was that there were so many paths that I never found myself reading the same page twice! Another was that there was a helpful key in the back to aid you when you needed to make a difficult decision. One other thing that I liked was how much historical information was included. In fact, this book has almost more nonfiction than fiction! However, one thing that I thought could have been changed was that there were very few illustrations. It is based on the Oregon Trail video game, so I was able to visualize most of the book. I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it for ages eight and up.
