The Quest for Z: The True Story of Explorer Percy Fawcett and a Lost City in the Amazon

Percy Fawcett was an explorer about a hundred years ago. After exploring jungles as a soldier in Sri Lanka, he decided to go on expeditions to survey the jungles in the Amazon. The Amazon was huge, unknown, and very dangerous, but Fawcett went on lots of expeditions and somehow survived. What he really wanted, though, was to find a huge ancient city that some people said was hidden deep in the jungle. Most people didn’t believe him, but he went anyway. He took his oldest son and his son’s friend — and they were never heard from again.

Even though the ending of this story is a mystery, and very sad for the people Fawcett left behind, it is a really interesting book that is also fun to read. The illustrations are cartoonlike and funny, and there are some funny stories about some of the things that happened to him, like running from a giant anaconda. Some are not funny at all, like being shot at by poisoned arrows. If you are interested in explorers, you will enjoy reading about Percy Fawcett. Do you want to be an explorer?
