The Penderwicks in Spring
I think that The Penderwicks in Spring is a good book. It is about when spring comes to Gardam Street. Everyone is happy about spring, but Batty is sad about her dog, Hound’s, death. Lots of wonderful surprises are coming. There is Lydia, the new addition to the family; their friend Nick Geiger is coming back from the war; and Batty is working on something special. She starts a dog-walking business. She walks two dogs named Duchess and Cilantro. Duchess is a fat dachshund and Cilantro is a wrinkled shar-pei. Batty planned on doing something like dusting or sweeping. She is saving up the money that she earns for something special. But when an unwelcome surprise comes, her plans start to fall apart.
This book is very funny. It has lots of realistic characters. This book also has a good sense of heart. It is not fantasy but it is not completely boring either. It will be interesting for most kids. I have never read the Penderwicks series before so it was a good experience. This book might not be interesting to all kids but it might be to you. The bottom line is that this is a good book. I recommend The Penderwicks in Spring for kids ages eight to thirteen.
