The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea
Maggie Tokuda’s second book The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea is an amazing, captivating book that’s beautifully written with many twists and turns.
Florian, born Flora, is living the life of a pirate on the high seas with her brother Alfie, tricking and selling Imperials as slaves to earn money. An Imperial aristocratic girl, Evelyn is on her way to meet her arranged husband while unknowingly playing part in a horrible ploy that will enrage the sea and likely bring ill consequence and peril to the waters.
Although it does get a little dark at some points, the romance definitely comes across and fills the story with wonder. Readers may find this story to be an endless adventure because even at the end it feels like things will go on forever. It leaves the reader feeling a bit unsettled, but this story is also filled to the brim with emotion. This is an enchanting book to read when you feel alone. Readers who are 9+ will love this book.
