The Meaning of Life According to the Mosquito
Prince George has been wondering what his purpose in life was ever since he hatched from the egg. He goes with his friends, Flick and Smack, on a journey to find out what is the purpose of life. The first other few mosquitoes he meets are very rich ones who live on a cruise boat. He is tempted to stay with them, but says he must go on and find out the purpose of life. He also meets a female mosquito who likes to ride horses, and a Spanish mosquito and his family. Each mosquito he meets has a different idea about what is important in life. Meanwhile, a gang of powerful dragonflies has launched an attack on George’s kingdom. Will he ever find his true purpose in life?
This book was very interesting and was very fun. It was interesting how the author had the way mosquitoes live go along with the plot, although usually the mosquitoes acted or talked just like humans. I don’t think these are supposed to be real facts about mosquitoes; for example, most female mosquitoes in this book feed on animals instead of humans, because humans carry diseases that can make the females sick. That is funny. (Males feed on nectar.) I liked Prince George because he wanted to do things his own way but also wanted to please his parents, and this was a good story about how he figured out what was the best thing to do. I don’t think it really makes a difference that the characters were mosquitoes; this tale could have been set with any animals (or people) but it is a tale of looking for the meaning of life and finding it where you are that applies to everyone. It is well-written and fun to read; everybody will enjoy this book.
