This is the third book in the series. There’s a good introduction, so it’s okay if you haven’t read the other books. Four kids are living in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies and monsters. Jack treats life like a video game. June has a flagpole spear weapon. Quint is really smart. Dirk is strong and good at making stuff. He has a garden. Rezzoch is the bad guy. He tries to use Jack by having the King Wretch give Jack possible visions of the future. The King Wretch is a giant, flying monster. The kids hear human voices on a radio. Jack is afraid he’ll be left alone if there are other humans because the other kids will find their parents. He was an orphan before the apocalypse. Are there really other humans, or is this a trick? Will Jack help Rezzoch? Read the book to find out.

My favorite character is Jack. He’s funny. The book is from his point of view. It’s a chapter book with lots of pictures. They add to the story. You wouldn’t know what was going on without the pictures because the speech bubbles change the story. The characters are adventurous, but this book is not scary. Rover is Jack’s monster dog. He’s big, and Jack rides him into battle. Rover is my favorite monster. I’m interested in reading the next book.
