The Invisible
The Invisible is the sequel of The Brokenhearted. Anthem thought that her life of complications was over, but a new group of people called “The Invisible” are in town. Reeling from previous events from The Brokenhearted, Anthem has to figure out how to defeat the “Invisible” (and who they are, exactly) while guarding her heart.
Unfortunately, I read this without reading The Brokenhearted first—I was hoping that I wouldn’t need to, but I was wrong. I tried desperately to get into the story and find meaning in the characters. Constantly, I was wondering what was going on that I was missing. Good sequels explain what is going on in that particular part of the story. Great sequels can be read as a stand-alone or years after the first book was read. For me, The Invisible did not have those qualities. The story dives straight into action-filled scenes, and, for someone who was reading the novel out of context, it was impossible to follow. I missed the entirety of The Brokenhearted, and there was no way to make up for it through The Invisible.
