The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf
The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf, written by Ambelin Kwaymullina, follows the story of Ashala Wolf, leader of a group of Illegals known as “The Tribe.” She is captured by Neville Rose, in Detention Center 3. There, she faces a machine that extracts her memories, an enforcer who was once a friend, and a traitor as she tries to escape. She uncovers surprising secrets and becomes stronger as she begins to learn who she really is, and why she is really there.
This book did not follow most dystopian cliches, and it was very original. Although it wasn’t completely action-packed, it was exciting and thought-provoking. It was fun to figure out what was going on as the plot kept taking new unexpected turns. My favorite character was Justin Connor. He was a very layered and complex character, and I thought it was very interesting to learn more about him as the book went on. I am definitely looking forward to reading the two other books in this series. I’m sure they will be just as exciting as this one was. Because dystopias are so popular, I would definitely recommend this book to others.
